Langka, Anyone?

As I wikied it, Langka in Filipino term, or Jackfruit in English (Artocarpus heterophyllus or A. heterophylla) is a species of tree in the mulberry family (Moraceae), which is native to parts of Southern and Southeast Asia. It is the national fruit of Bangladesh. And it is one of the yummiest fruit in Philippines! Yay! It is well suited to tropical lowlands. Its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world, reaching 80 pounds (36 kg) in weight and up to 36 inches (90 cm) long and 20 inches (50 cm) in diameter.
Back in Philippines, when we lived in the farm when I was still young, we used to grow more than 20 Jackfruit trees which my parents planted. We had so much memories of this fruit just as it has so many good descriptions as a fruit as well. When I recently went home for a vacation, I had a blast munching a lot of these because they were in season and I had a good timing.

See? There were like more than 5 pieces of whole Jackfruit when I was there. I made it a point to eat plenty since I can never find one here in the US, except for those in can already which come from Thailand.

Up close, you can tell that it’s very juicy. It sure is very sweet, a bit crunchy, and did I mention, smelly? Yep, it does smells so good that when there’s even a slice in your kitchen, everybody in the house is able to smell its aromatic fragrant. Now, I’m drooling! Lol.

Do you like Jackfruits? Or, have you tried it already? If not, head to any tropical place now, particularly in Asia, and see what I’m talking about! :D
